Equinor has flagged that the United Kingdom risks becoming "uninvestable" if North Sea projects Jackdaw and Rosebank are blocked. The Norwegian energy company's chief executive raised doubts about whether future investment in the UK could continue if drilling approvals are denied, drawing attention from the BBC, The Times, and the Financial Times.
The warning adds heat to UK energy policy at a time when the government is weighing up the future of North Sea development. Blocking the two projects, Equinor made clear, would create real uncertainty about the country's appetite for large-scale energy investment.
Separately, Equinor issued a quarterly update on 7 October 2026 saying its trading profit will come in above expectations for the third quarter. Reuters reported the update ahead of the company's planned earnings release.
